Our bodies are home to many different organs and systems that are necessary for maintaining our health. For this reason alone, we ought to do our best to treat our bodies well by giving it the TLC it needs.
It goes without saying that diet and exercise are two ways of doing this. However, what many people don’t know is that specific organs in our bodies need to be detoxed properly in order to be able to function to their full capacity and keep our health in check.
Here are 7 of our organs that should be detoxed regularly and how to do it:
Liver: The liver weakens with each bite of fried food or additional amount of stress. A contaminated liver can’t process toxins and fat efficiently. Some foods to include in your weekly diet to help with your liver detox include (but are not limited to): garlic, grapefruit, beets, carrots, cruciferous vegetables and apples.
Gallbladder: The gallbladder works with the liver and both are essential for digestion. To help your gallbladder do its job you should make sure that you are consuming enough fibre, fruits, vegetables and water. In addition, you will want to avoid foods that are high in fat and sugar, such as fast food.
Blood: While it technically isn’t an organ, it regularly needs to be detoxified as it carries all the essentials your body needs to function on a regular basis. Blood-donating campaigns have painted the world with their famous slogan, “Blood – it’s in you to give.” But I like to say, “Blood – it’s in me to live.” And that’s exactly why it’s there for all of us. Seeing as many people lose their lives to blood loss, blood poisoning and blood infections, we can determine that cleaning our blood stream and ridding it of bacteria is an important component for maintaining our health – and our lives.
In order to detox your blood, you can use a blood cleanser, which consists of various herbs: Chaparral, Red clover, Burdock root, Poke root, Yellow dock root, Goldenseal root, Oregon grape root, Bloodroot, Mistletoe, Sheep sorrel, Cat’s claw, and Cayenne.
This formula removes toxic residues from the blood. It can also be used to flush out toxins from your liver and gallbladder. It’s important to note that it should only be consumed bi-annually as the herbs are extremely potent and taking too much can actually break down your red blood cells.
If herbs are not your style, these foods also work to cleanse your blood: garlic, apple, beets, parsley, carrots, leafy greens, broccoli sprouts, lemons, flaxseed and blueberries. You can eat them raw, or try juicing them to more readily absorb their detoxifying properties.
Lymph: Again, not an organ, but this fluid and the system of nodes it flows through is directly related to our skin. If this organ is filled with toxins, our skin won’t have a healthy glow. You can clean out your lymphatic system by drinking plenty of water and avoiding processed foods. Lymph massages are also available.
Pancreas: Here’s an organ that doesn’t get enough attention. Nevertheless, it remains an important part of our bodies and if not taken care of, can lead to hormonal imbalances and other significant health disorders. There are a few different ways to detox your pancreas:
Water and juice – Starting your day with a glass of lemon juice and warm water will help keep your pancreas smiling. In addition, kiwi, pineapple and papaya juices are also great for keeping your pancreas healthy.
Hot shower or bath – Doing this daily is good for your digestion and in turn, your pancreas.
Reduce stress – Keeping your emotions in check and freeing yourself of negative feelings and worries will help you maintain proper hormonal levels and prevent your pancreas from becoming polluted.
Kidneys: These two bean-shaped organs filter out toxins and waste from the bloodstream. If we fail to take care of our kidneys, we can put our entire health in jeopardy. A juice cleanse is one the best ways to cleanse your kidneys. Specific juices that help with a kidney detox include: cranberry juice, beet juice and lemon juice. All are useful for boosting the kidneys and keeping them fully operating.
Intestines: Our digestive system serves many different purposes. It breaks down the food we eat, transfers any nutritional value from that food to our cells, processes waste from food and eliminates it from the body. It’s clear that our intestines play an integral role in the overall function of our bodies. Because it is so good to us, we must also be good to it.
