Everyone feels stuck sometimes, usually more than once in their lifetime. Whether it’s because you’ve been in the same job for too long or you simply haven’t broken from your regular routine in months or even years, your days can start to feel long and pointless.

It isn’t always easy to pin-point why you are feeling stuck, or sometimes even that you are in need of a change at all. Knowing some of the signs that could be telling you that you are in a rut will provide you the opportunity to break out of it quickly and continue living an exciting and purposeful life.

5 Signs That You Need to Make a Change

1. Frequent Jealousy
Comparison is the thief of joy. If you find yourself constantly comparing what you have or where you are at in your life to others, and feeling ashamed because of it, ask yourself why. Are you putting too much value in material possessions? Are you comparing your life to everyone else’s “highlight reel” on Instagram? Do you feel as though everyone else is moving forward with their lives while you are stuck in the same place? Feeling jealous means you wish you had what other people seem to. Perhaps it is time for you to make a change and start going after what you really want out of life.

2. You Never Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
While routine is important for a balanced and healthy life, never breaking out of it takes all excitement and spontaneity. How can you grow, change, or become the success you truly wish to be if you never push yourself to get there? Sure, there may be some hiccups or setbacks on the way, but if you never try you will never realize your full potential. Don’t let fear of failure or the unfamiliar hold you back from the life you are truly capable of having.

3. You Don’t Know Your Own Passions
Life without passion is not living, it is merely existing. If you are struggling to find your passion, perhaps it is because you haven’t tried anything new in a while. Try making a list of your interests, skills, likes, dislikes, and even weaknesses. Start pursuing those areas. Perhaps you can learn a new language, book a trip to a place that inspires you, or read a book on a topic you want to learn more about. Exploring your heart and mind and participating in a variety of new activities will help you break out of your shell and realize talents and passions you didn’t know you had.

4. You Live for Vacations
A tell-tale sign that you need to make a life change is when your days off and vacations become everything to you. If you are miserable Monday through Friday and dread the morning come Sunday evening, perhaps your current job or weekly routine needs some revamping. You spend the majority of your life in your regular weekly routine, so make sure it is one that you enjoy. Get involved with your community for after-work activities and comradery. Ask your boss if there are any new or interesting projects you can work on. Maybe you need to consider making a career change all together. Whatever it may be, if you can make your everyday more enjoyable, you will be happier as a result. Vacations and weekends will just be a bonus to your already great life.

5. Introspective Moments Prove you are Not on the Right Path
Try this: Write down your top 3 priorities along side the top 3 things you are focused on the most or take up the most of your time. How closely related are these lists? If you find you are not focusing the majority of your time on the things that are actually important to you, then you need to make a change. You can’t possibly get fulfillment out of life if you never work on the things that have meaning to you.

Making a change is not easy. It can be scary at the beginning and might even be hard at first. However, once you finally do it and start living your life on your own terms and doing the things that actually bring you joy, you will never turn back. So what are you waiting for? Make the changes you need to and experience the life you are actually meant to be living.
