Pasta is a go-to meal for many people and families. It’s super easy to make and not time-consuming at all; just boil some noodles, heat up some sauce and VOILA! It’s ready for you to eat.

Pasta: to eat or not to eat?

While pasta on its own typically isn’t bad for you, it can be depending on what you put in it. Many people like to top their penne with loads of cheese or drown their noodles in a cream sauce. Then, if you add more fat and sodium in the form of Italian sausage or meatballs to your plate, you end up with one unhealthy meal.

In addition, traditional pasta noodles are made from wheat and thus, contain gluten. Gluten has been known to cause various digestive issues and studies have shown that gluten can cause inflammation in the intestine. This is why more and more people are opting for a gluten-free diet these days.

Because pasta is filled with refined carbohydrates, you are essentially consuming empty calories. One cup of spaghetti contains 220 calories. When you compare this number to calorie-free zucchini, there is an obvious winner here.

Running a zucchini through a spiralizer to be used as noodles is a great alternative to white noodles. Zucchinis are free of saturated fats and cholesterol and won’t spike your blood sugar levels. This vegetable is also rich in potassium, which helps keep your heart in good health and contains dietary fiber, which aids with digestion.

This is one of my favorite Zucchini Pasta Recipes… So quick and easy to make! You will need a machine called a Vegetable Spiralizer to make the pasta. I always look forward to using the machine because it’s so much fun! This lime tahini sauce is so simple and it makes the most delicious, perfect creamy sauce!
