Great Reasons Why Dogs Truly Are Man’s Best Friend

They greet you with excitement at the door, cuddle you when you’re feeling down, and love you unconditionally: dogs truly are a gift to humankind.

It can’t be denied that dogs bring happiness to our lives. With so many reasons to own a dog, it’s a wonder why everyone doesn’t have at least one. If you are reading this and are a self-proclaimed “dog person”, you will be nodding your head in agreement while reading this. If you are not as canine-oriented, perhaps this article will change your mind.

Reasons Dogs are a Man’s Best Friend

1. You’re always in good company
Dogs are happiest when they are close to the people they love. Whether they want to play or just sit quietly beside (or on) you, they are always there. With a loving dog at home, a night in becomes just as appealing as a night out with friends.

2. Dogs are deeply connected to their humans
Whether you have them from the time they are a puppy or you adopt them later in life, your dog bonds with you in a way that no human can. So much that they feel incredibly sad when you leave and overjoyed every time you return. They never tire of your presence – if it was up to your dog, you would be with them 24/7.

3. Dogs will do anything for the people they love
We’ve all read incredible stories of dogs saving the lives of their owners, becoming guardians of the new baby in the family, and accomplishing incredible feats to protect or rescue the people they love. They will put their own safety on the line to keep you out of harm’s way without ever taking a second thought.

4. Dogs keep you healthy
Our furry friends keep us both mentally and physically healthy. They can tell when we are sad and do whatever they can to cheer us up. They force us to go outside for a walk at least once a day and get exercise playing with them. Dogs have even detected illnesses such as cancer in their humans. They lift our spirits and help to keep us fit and healthy.

5. They teach us to live in the moment
For our dogs, everyday is new and exciting. They take on each new sunrise with enthusiasm, unencumbered by the events of the day before. They also take the time to stop and appreciate the little things in life – a good smell, a friendly face or a soft blanket. Each of these seemingly tiny details of life are worth exploring to a dog, and they soak in every little bit of it.

6. Dogs can sense when you are sad
Your dog knows when you come home and have had a rough day. Their only mission is to make you feel better. Maybe they’ll bring you a gift, like their favourite toy, or they will just snuggle up to you and stare at you with their big puppy dog eyes until you can’t help but smile, even if it is through tears.

7. They live life with unbridled joy
It’s hard not to feel happy when you are with your dog. They live life with such intense happiness! It helps us to see the brighter side of things and reminds us to not take ourselves so seriously. If we all took on every new day with the same mindset as our four-legged friends, we would enjoy every day more than we ever thought possible.

Our dogs love us with no strings attached and are loyal to a fault. The best thing you can do is return the favour – love your dog with all of your heart. Remember, while they may only be here for a portion of your life, you are their entire life. Make it a good one for them.
