The first thing I think of when people talk about lemons is the face I make when I try to eat one whole. You know the tight, puckered lips and squinted eyes. I’m a big wuss when it comes to sour things. I basically have no tolerance for it at all.
You’d think that means that I’m missing out on all the wonderful effects that lemons bring to the table but you’d be wrong. When you combine lemon with a glass of hot water, like I do every morning, a large part of its tart flavor is handled by the water.
Is Lemon Water Good For You?
It means I don’t make that awkward pinched face when I drink it. On the contrary I quite enjoy my lemon water every morning. It is incredibly refreshing, invigorating and not to mention the fact that it gives my metabolism a much needed boost. Yay!
Lemons are one of those crazy fruits that just keeps getting better and better. They are loaded with healthy benefits, and they’re a particularly great source of vitamin C.
One cup of fresh lemon juice provides 187 % of your recommended daily serving of vitamin
Lemon juice also offers up a healthy serving of potassium, magnesium and copper.
Oh, and sorry to burst your bubble but you are not drinking lemon water every time you sit down at a restaurant and the waiter brings you a water with a single slice of lemon. There is one common mistake that most people make when enjoying a glass of lemon water. They don’t realize that the lemon peel is one of the most nutritious parts of the whole fruit.
Lemme guess, your normal routine is to slice a lemon, squeeze the juice into a bottle and add some hot or ice water. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but you are actually making lemon water the wrong way.
I know, I know, who thought there could be much more to know about a drink with only two ingredients. But there is, even though it’s a minor difference.
The Ideal Lemon Water Recipe
Take out a couple fresh, preferably organic lemons.
Slice them as thin or thick as you like.
Squeeze some of the sliced lemons into the water but not all.
Grate some of the zest of these squeezed slices into your drink.
Place the remaining un-squeezed slices in your blender bottle, mug, or travel cup.
Fill to the brim with either boiling hot, or ice cold water.
Lemon Water For The Win
Health experts say that lemon water acidity aids in digestion. It also helps to slow absorption of food, which conserves insulin stores in the body and ensures your body gets the most out of the food it’s processing.
Lemon water can also give your GI tract the push it needs in the a.m. to get things moving and also reduce fluid retention.
So why not give it a try. And if you’re already a lemon water enthusiast like me, make sure you’re making it right way and benefiting from all its resources.
