Loyal Golden Retriever ‘Protects’ Crying Girl As She’s Told Off By Her Mother

Who said Golden Retrievers weren’t the best dog breed out there? Gentle, fiercely loyal, friendly, and incredibly sweet – nothing can go wrong when you have a Goldie in your life.

A mom in China recently captured the most adorable video of a Golden Retriever protecting her two-year-old from a scolding. According to Ms. Sun, her daughter, YouYou, had just destroyed a pot of facial cream by dipping her toy into it, and the angry mom wasn’t letting it slide. She yelled at the girl who began to cry loudly as the Golden, Harry, named after the bespectacled wizard of Hogwarts, stepped in front of her protectively.

“I was honestly really upset. I’d just bought the cream and half of it was already gone. My baby started crying because I was shouting at her quite aggressively,” Ms. Sun said to Daily Mail

The dog probably thought the mom was taking it too far and gnarled his teeth ferociously. Mom continued yelling and it was a super-adorable moment when Harry protective wrapped his paw around YouYou to shield her from the angry woman. [1]

Best friends forever

Five-year-old Harry has been by YouYou’s side since she was born. According to Ms. Sun, 32, who lives with her family in the Eastern Chinese city of Xuzhou, Harry is fond of stepping in front of YouYou whenever she’s being scolded, regardless of what the girl has done.

“I was still upset but I thought it was also quite funny,” Ms. Sun said. “It was very heart-warming. Dogs would find ways to express their love if you treat them properly. Whenever we speak to [You You] in a harsh tone, he would come over and try to shield her with his paws. He would protect the child with his life.”

The mom said Harry’s defense of YouYou in the video was infuriating at first. However, her anger immediately melted away and she was just taken aback by the display of love. She had to record the touching scene and post it to her followers on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok for short videos.

While thousands of people immediately fell in love with the Goldie and the little girl, some viewers were concerned that the mom had staged the act.

One viewer wrote: “Did anyone notice that the pet owner hit the golden retriever first and it started snarling? It’s the dog’s natural response. It’s not trying to protect the child.”

Another wrote: “This is clearly edited. The mother taught the dog to hug the baby.”

However, Ms. Sun denied the allegations, stating that the dog’s reaction to her daughter’s plight was completely natural. She’s also overwhelmed by the love and attention the sweet pair has received since the video went viral.

The best dog breeds for your kids

The video above is especially heartwarming because, in most homes where a new baby is born after a pet’s arrival, the latter is usually envious of the former. Most pets would have a hard time adjusting to babies, but Harry immediately took to YouYou and literally belongs to her now. Beautiful.

Every family wants a pet that would protect, love, and be friends with their growing children. With dogs, certain breeds are wonderful for families with young children, such as Goldens and Labradors, while others are to be avoided at all costs, such as Pitbulls and Rottweilers.

Parents need to consider the temperament of the breed, the size of the dog, its patience level, and friendliness. You need a loyal, reliable, and confident dog that enjoys being around people. The dog must also be obedient, easy to train, playful, and not cause or trigger allergies.

According to Pet MD, some of the best breeds for kids include Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Irish setter poodle, Beagle, and Border Collie. [2]

Dogs are simply the best, and when you have a loving pooch ready to guard you against all danger and love you without question, life is certainly a lot better.
