Tennessee Bride’s 4 Grandmothers Serve as Her Flower Girls at Her Wedding

Seeing your partner on his knee and hearing him pop those magic words is the stuff of dreams, especially when you have envisioned spending a lifetime together. Nothing speaks more to you of his intent to commit and shape your future life together. It removes all question marks about his intentions. But after the fantastic proposal comes the hard work: planning a marriage. Some choose to escape the stress of planning a big wedding by opting for an intimate ceremony; however, for others, a small wedding is not an option.

Planning a big wedding is hard. Even with the presence of wedding vendors, the stress doesn’t go away. You have to deal with getting the perfect dress and accessories, choosing your bridesmaids, choosing a cake, etc. Then you have to inform your parents who will, in turn, inform their guests before getting back to you. It is more difficult when you have a large family looking to participate in one capacity or another at your wedding.

So how do you incorporate each one of them without hurting their feelings? Break conventions and do it your way. And this is precisely what Lyndsey and Tanner Raby decided to do at their wedding held in Benton, Tennessee.

Here’s the perfect solution the couple came up with

When all grandmamas wanted to participate in their wedding, Lyndsey and Tanner decided to do something special for them. Rather than go with the regular tradition of having a girl no older than three years old, the couple decided to make the grandmothers their flower girls. Yeah, you heard that right!

Lyndsey’s flower girls included Joyce Raby, Tanner’s 70-year-old paternal grandmother; Kathleen Brown, Lyndsey’s 90-year-old maternal great-grandmother; Wanda Grant, Lyndsey’s 76-year-old paternal grandmother; and Betty Brown, Lyndsey’s 72-year-old maternal grandmother.

I thought it was such a sweet way to involve them,” Lyndsey said. “They mean the world to us, and we were so grateful to have them here with us because a lot of people don’t even get one at their wedding.”

Donned in matching ankle-length dresses and light blue jackets, all four women walked down the aisle throwing flower petals. Yes, you heard me say matching outfits. Of course, they got to pick the dress!

Lyndsey explained that picking a perfect dress was a bit of a challenge with grandma Betty not comfortable with her legs showing and grandma Kathleen, not in the least bothered about showing off some skin. According to Lyndsey: “It took us a while to find the right dress, they were divas about it.”

More color and zest

Speaking on the women’s enthusiasm, Lindsey says that they were definitely more excited than her bridesmaids. Photographer Natalie Caho, also added that all grandmas added color and life to the event.

I was not expecting the level of sass that these girls brought. Their energy all day was that of a little girl who was in the same position. It truly just goes to show that age is just a number,” she said. [1]

The significance of this isn’t lost on her. Many never had the opportunity to have a single grandma at their wedding, talk more of all four. And Lyndsey understands this. What’s more? She’s incredibly grateful for that opportunity and the vital role all four women played at her wedding.

I’m so lucky. A lot of women don’t get one grandparent at their wedding, and I was blessed to have all of them,” the 24-year-old bride said. [2]

After sharing some photos of her wedding on her Facebook page, grandma Joyce took to the comment section to make it clear that the love was mutual.

“I felt so special and loved. Thanks, Tanner and Lyndsey,” she wrote in a comment. [3]

Lyndsey is indeed a lucky bride, and we wish her all the best in her marriage.
