There are over a million species of flowers in the world, all special, all beautiful and unique, but there’s nothing quite like a rose. Roses are the pride charm of every garden. There are over 150 species of roses in the world, and according to their colors, they symbolize a wide range of emotions: love, romance, passion, gratitude, admiration, guilt, sadness, mourning, purity, humility, innocence, friendship, joy and so much more. Simply put, roses are down-right remarkable.
These days, there are more varieties of roses than ever before. Horticulturists have been cross-breeding roses to make exquisite and even more stunning hybrids, one of which is the beautiful Osiria rose, a lovely tea rose variety with a swirl of red and white petals.
The Osiria rose was created in 1978 by Kordes Roses, a German rose production and distribution company . Owned by Reimer Kordes, the company has been producing some of the most outstanding rose hybrids in the world since 1887.
Due to its hybrid nature, the flower often has different appearances when it blooms fully. The rose hadn’t always been popular until floral photographers got wind of the rare blooms and captured them for the world to see. However, what we see in the photos are usually too different from what the roses actually look like, which would often leave people disappointed.
Normally, real Osiria blooms would have white inner petals cross-hatched or jagged with red pigment (often scarlet or candy apple), as though the color was splattered on them, which is still very beautiful. On the other hand, the possibly enhanced photos would show velvety deep cherry or garnet red outer pearls, perfectly stuffed on the inside with the clean white petals tipped with red.

While the flowers don’t always turn out to look that flawless, they are still stunning anyway. According to floral photographer Stan V. Griep of the American Rose Society, “Osiria is not a scam; she does exist but the blooms she produces will typically be different than those shown on the internet which makes the heartbeat a bit faster.”
You might be able to grow them right in your garden
According to Griep, the Osiria rose was named after a theoretical empire, Osiria. “I doubt that you will find Osiria on any map or any Biblical or historical mention of her as, again, like Atlantis, she was a theoretical empire. Just as some of the enhanced photos of her, the lore behind the name is enticing.”
The Osiria can also be identified by a strong and intensely stunning fragrance that would certainly make up for the lack of deep velvety colors you may have been expecting.
You can’t easily find them in local florist shops since they are quite difficult to grow in a garden. However, if you decide to take that leap of faith and grow them yourself, you’d have to be prepared for a few tough realities. The plant is exceptionally susceptible to insect attacks and diseases like powdery mildew, and finding viable seeds to plant is another hurdle to jump. However, if you’re a true gardener who loves experimenting until you get it right, then the Osiria may have found a place in your soil.
Gardeners would just have to be extra vigilant with these flowers and when they do sprout into full blooms, you’d certainly be glad you took the chance to add such beauty and charm to your garden or home.
