Amazon Is Selling a Garden Dome So You Can Glamp in Your Backyard

For people like me who don’t exactly understand why we have to ‘rough it out’ to connect with nature in the name of camping, glamping is the best way to avoid feeling like you’re missing out. Coined from the words “glamorous” and “camping,” glamping is basically camping with luxury, glamor, and all of the facilities you wouldn’t normally find on a traditional camping trip.

While most people would choose to glamp in comfortable, spacious tents or cabins, Amazon is now selling an incredible 107 square-foot geodesic dome that would allow you to glamp right in your backyard. [1] You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on camping trips or glamping resorts every time you want to feel like the modern-day Thomas Holding (although it wouldn’t be bad to feel that hardcore once in a while).

You can now buy a non-corrosive weather-resistant igloo that’s tall enough for most people to stand up in with a maximum height of 7”2. It’s made of PVC and PA6 materials, and held sturdy by all-round interlocking triangles. You can stare at the sky all night long and spend time outdoors without really being outside. This is quite helpful for mosquito-prone climates and areas.

All you need in one igloo

Inside your dome, you can fit a bed, a camping chair, a small table, and even flower vases. With a base diameter of 11”9, there’s enough room for three people and even a pet in there. The dome can withstand winds at speeds as high as 31mi/h or lying snow conditions at 90 lbs maximum.

The dome is designed to maximize airflow and keep a uniform temperature all around.

All you have to do is dish out $1,199 and find enough space in your backyard.

One happy customer on Amazon wrote: “We bought one after we went to the Watergate Hotel and rented one of their igloos for the evening. Last year, we set it up in our front yard in DC and this year, we just moved it to our backyard in Williamsburg. The set-up is a little time consuming the first time, maybe less than two hours. The second time, it was less than 30 minutes. We absolutely love it for the winter.”

While the dome is heat-resistant for the most part, it’s not exactly suitable for use in extremely hot climates.

A seller on Amazon wrote: “Dear VIP customers, I would not suggest using the igloo in temps as high as 100 degrees; there can be a dangerous effect that will make it hot up to 140 degrees in 100-degree weather.” [2]

Well, if the weather is not baking hot, or for most parts of the year, you can use your igloo as much as you want. You can also add a cooling unit if you choose to. It’s not only suitable for glamping. You can use it as a greenhouse, a gazebo, a play area, and even a dinner party space. It’s all yours, after all.

Whether it’s popsicles and chilled margaritas in the summer or hot chocolate in the winter, you can relax while watching the stars from the comfort of your backyard igloo.
